( CHARACTER INFORMATION )
Name/Work Name: Amaterasu / Taiyou (written as 太陽)
Canon: Okami
Canon Point: Post-Okami, pre-Okamiden
AU/CRAU: N
Age: Old
History: here
Personality:
And, sometimes, it's obvious that's exactly what she is. Other times, you wouldn't even be able to tell.
But Amaterasu, regardless of her godhood, is an interesting creature. She is full of balance and contradictions: excitable and relaxed, energetic and lazy, focused and easily distracted. She is easy to rile, though through even the most chaotic situation she can keep a level head. While prone to curling up and sleeping, or preferring to sit around and eat, the moment that she's pushed into action she will not stop until a task is finished, putting all of her energy into it.
She is also there for both the people of Nippon and for the nature surrounding them. She will patiently and avidly listen to people, even if they think that she can't understand them. If they have any woes, anything they need help with, she will almost immediately opt to help them after she hears them out. And it's not even as a god that she does this; she does it because it's the right thing to do. The same goes for any problems that occur in nature, and she will spend a great deal of time going around to make sure trees are in bloom, animals are fed, that that part of Nippon is in balance, too.
As 'the origin of all that is good, and mother to us all,' she is fairly benevolent (if a bit of a prankster and jokester sometimes), and incredibly mothering. Young children, human or otherwise, will always fall under her protection. And once you've befriended Amaterasu, you've made a friend for life (and then some, considering). Though, be warned, she might consider headbutting you should you need a good kick in the ass to get you moving, or to stop you from dwelling on the past.
At the end of the day, however, she is still an animal at her core. She can be vicious, especially when those close to her are in danger. And though she has a merciful twist to her, should the opponent in question deserve it, she will be merciless and swift in her retribution.
She is also sure-footed, certain. She can be gentle when it matters, especially in regards to children, women, and animals. As a brush god, she is also artistic, and has a deep appreciation for the arts. The same goes for nature; she is closely in tune with it, and can feel at home in even the most wild forest.
It can be said that Amaterasu is also incredibly trusting, and it is true in some cases. She will always try to give a person the benefit of the doubt, especially women and children (beautiful women are a major weakness for her, actually). But should she learn of deceit, it depends on what the outcome may be: if it's for their benefit, in the end, she will allow it to continue. After all, sometimes it's a sacrifice for the greater good (such as with Ninetails impersonating the priestess Lady Rao: they would not have attained the location of Oni Island if they had tried to stop Ninetails).
With that in mind, it can also be said that she would be more than willing to sacrifice herself if it meant she could protect those important to her, or simply the world itself. In fact, she has essentially done this before. She may be a god, but gods can be slain.
Debt: The Witch could successfully get Amaterasu to work for her by simply asking for help, but for incentives:
Also, she would request additional debt be added to this in exchange for keeping her Divine Retribution - nevermind that it is directly tied to her godhood, and would probably be nigh impossible to remove without stripping her of that. But Ammy won't say anything if the Witch won't. (aka it's a free reason to have a god in her employ longer.)

Abilities:
Amaterasu is swifter, stronger, and more resilient than typical wolves and a good deal of people. She can take most attacks that would down even the strongest warrior and get back up again. However, her strength largely depends on the belief people have in the gods. Should it wane, so would her strength. Where she walks, flowers spring up behind her, leaving a trail of life wherever she goes. The flowers of course fade, but the life does not. The ground is healthier for her having crossed it.
Divine Instruments
Amaterasu has command of various Divine Instruments found across the great country of Nippon. Though she will only have access to her first tier reflector, the Divine Retribution initially, it is still a formidable force and they all work similarly. She can, in only a way truly known to her, command these Instruments and use them to attack enemies. Reflectors, in example, can be swung about to bludgeon and beat enemies soundly. It can be assumed that the flames of the Divine Retribution harm her enemies, but not her allies, as anyone riding her back is unharmed if they come into contact with it. Reflectors can also be used to block and, as their name indicates, reflect attacks back.
Ink
As a celestial brush god (more in a moment!), Amaterasu has a nigh unlimited source of ink at her disposal. So long as she allows it to replenish itself (in battle, this can be expedited by attacking enemies with her Divine Instrument), and there is belief in the gods, it will never run dry. There are, of course, moments where she must go without it (if an opponent drains it, or if she's in a cursed zone which saps away her godhood along with her ink), but overall it is as much a part of her as her blood is. Though she does not display the ability in game, it can be assumed that she can write messages with her ink, considering the fact she draws on paper, the earth, walls--basically any surface where the ink will stick. Should she draw it on air and it's not a symbol associated with a brush technique, it will drift away on the wind.
She can also create fishing lines out of her ink, though this may simply be an extra feature of the rejuvenation technique (below).
Celestial Brush Techniques
Though it can be assumed Amaterasu likely has access to the new brush strokes that Chibiterasu learns, there are thirteen basic techniques (and their secondaries) at her disposal that she has a mastery of. These techniques are unique to Amaterasu and her kin, the celestial brush gods, but there are some who can learn or steal these techniques for their own use (Issun, Ninetails). They need only have the skill, determination, and belief.
Sunrise - Performed by drawing a circle anywhere in the sky, it allows the user to summon the sun. This can either be to clear a cloudy sky, extend the day, or cut the night short. As the goddess of the sun, this technique is unique to Amaterasu, who represents the dog of the zodiac.
Rejuvenation - Performed by filling in damaged areas--such as the space left behind by a broken bridge--with ink, rejuvenation is used to repair things. This can only be used on inanimate, lifeless objects. The brush god associated with the technique is Yomigami, the dragon of the zodiac.
Power Slash - Performed by slashing an opponent with a line of ink, power slash is used much like one would use a sword. The attack can be blocked by armor or shields, much like a sword would be. The brush god associated with the technique is Tachigami, the mouse of the zodiac.
Greensprout: Bloom - Performed by encircling the desired plant (or enemy!) with ink. This technique allows the user to assist plants into blooming (whether it be a tree or a patch of flowers), or to open up an enemy's weakpoint, should they be plant-like in appearance or nature. The ability to sprout plantlife simply by dotting the landscape is also an option, which allows for flowers and trees to suddenly spring up (trees can be used to block attacks, even). The brush god associated with this technique is Sakigami, one of the monkeys of the zodiac.
Greensprout: Water Lily - Performed by drawing a circle in water, this technique allows Amaterasu to create lily pads to traverse across. The maximum at a time is three, and should she draw a fourth, the first will disappear. This technique cannot be performed in polluted or acidic water. The brush god associated with this technique is Hasugami, the second of the Hanagami monkey brothers.
Greensprout: Vine - Performed by drawing a line from airborn Konohana blossoms to Amaterasu. Unless the Witch decides to bring similar plants (or the blossoms themselves) to the island, this ability is unusable in Forest Covered. Vine allows the user to traverse high above the ground, swinging from blossom to blossom. The brush god associated with this technique is Tsutagami, the final monkey of the zodiac.
Cherry Bomb - Performed by drawing a circle with a straight 'fuse' sticking out from it. This technique allows you to create massive cherry bombs that will explode into a powerful force of confetti, destroying rocks, pottery, cracks, and greatly damaging and confusing enemies. The brush god associated with this technique is Bakugami, the boar of the zodiac.
Waterspout - There are four different uses for the waterspout technique. To quench fires or to move water from one location to another, you need only to draw a line from the water to where you want to direct it. To turn bubbling springs into geysers to climb up, draw a line straight up from the spring (these geysers only last a short period of time, however!). To use deluge, drawing two vertical lines will cause it to begin raining. The fourth technique associated with waterspout would not come into use in Forest Covered unless the Witch decided to apply the required magic to springs/baths on the island, much like vine, and is done by drawing a whirlpool in specific ponds. This allows one to traverse between Mermaid Springs, much like portals. The brush god associated with waterspout is Nuregami, the snake of the zodiac.
Crescent - The sister technique to sunrise, crescent is performed by drawing a curved arc in the sky, much like a waning crescent. This creates or prolongs night time, much like sunrise creates or prolongs day time. The brush god associated with this technique is Yumigami, the rabbit of the zodiac.
Galestorm - Performed by drawing a loop-de-loop or spiral in the air. Loops create gusts of wind that blow from side to side, depending on which direction you've drawn it in. Spirals create gusts of wind that blow forward and backward. The bigger the loop or spiral, the stronger the wind. Drawing three horizontal lines allows Amaterasu to use whirlwind, which is the strongest of the galestorm techniques, and acts like a brief, small tornado. The brush god associated with this technique is Kazegami, the horse of the zodiac.
Inferno - Much like waterspout, this technique is performed by drawing a line from a source of fire to your target, whether it be an enemy or something to ignite. A second technique, fireburst, is done by drawing the infinity sign (∞), and creates a sudden burst of flame that ignites and burns anything in the immediate area. The brush god associated with this technique is Moegami, the rooster of the zodiac.
Veil of Mist - By drawing two horizontal lines, Amaterasu can slow down time around her for four seconds. This allows her to move past incredibly fast enemies before they can strike, or to find an opponent's weak point. It's essentially Matrix bullet time. A second technique is associated with this, but cannot be used in the city or without the Fog Pot item, which would allow Amaterasu to teleport between Ultimate Origin Mirrors. The brush god associated with this technique is Kasugami, the sheep of the zodiac.
Catwalk - Another technique that could not be used in Forest Covered unless the Witch applied some magic. To use it, Amaterasu would have to draw a line up a vertical surface from a statue of Kabegami, the god associated with this brush technique. She is the cat of the zodiac, originally left out of the Chinese version. Catwalk allows for Amaterasu to walk up any vertical surface where Kabegami was situated.
Thunderstorm - Much like waterspout and inferno, this technique is performed by drawing a line from an electrical source (whether a pre-existing thunderstorm or some other source does not matter) to the intended target. It will electrocute them or power up machinery. A second technique, thunderbolt, is performed by drawing a sharp, vertical zigzag in the air. It strikes enemies with a bolt of lightning. The brush god associated with this brush technique is Gekigami, the tiger of the zodiac.
Blizzard - The final brush technique, and similar to waterspout, inferno, and thunderstorm, it is performed by drawing a line from a source of ice. It will freeze targets in place for a brief amount of time, or temporarily freeze sources of fire (the fire will eventually melt the ice, and will not actually be extinguished). A second technique, ice storm, can be performed by drawing an asterisk (*) to create a brief snowstorm. The god associated with this brush technique is Itegami, the ox of the zodiac.

- ☀ Honest
☀ Intelligent
☀ Loyal
☀ Sense of justice & fairness
☀ Amicable
☀ Sociable
☀ Open-minded
☀ Moralistic
☀ Practical
☀ Affectionate

But also of note, there are negative traits of the dog zodiac that suit her:
- ☀ Lazy
☀ Judgmental
☀ Stubborn (she is actually incredibly bullheaded)
☀ Quarrelsome
☀ Cold, to a degree (she will deliver swift, merciless justice to enemies)
☀ Worrier, again to a degree (she will fuss and whine at times, but not often)
It should also be noted that she does. Not. Like. Water. Spending too much time in it will actually wash away her ink, and thus her godhood.
